Would you agree that
- it is difficult for middle-class people to find affordable rental accommodation in the Brussels Region?
- the quality of average rental flats in Brussels is poor?
- prejudice and discrimination often play a role in the rental of properties?
- when it comes to property and housing, the government and the private sector often seem to be talking at cross purposes?
- no one has a solid plan to tackle all these issues?
Would you like to help initiate a solution to all this? Then I warmly welcome you to the world of Whatt.eu.
Joining forces with the general public
The supply of private rental housing in the Brussels Region is in urgent need of expansion and renewal. It must be adapted to the needs of residents.
In order to make faster progress, citizens, businesses and public authorities must join forces and pool their resources. Involving the general public in a challenge such as the housing of the future is a social innovation in itself. Investing in rental property is within everyone's reach, including people with a limited investment budget.
A cooperative
The cooperative company, and more specifically the mixed or multi-stakeholder cooperative, is a suitable instrument for tackling this challenge. A characteristic feature of this type of cooperative is that it brings together different stakeholders in a single structure. All activities, ranging from property development to letting, operating and management, are integrated into a single organisation. Housing then becomes a package of services that takes into account the interests of all parties involved.
Many individuals and companies are willing to become members of a cooperative if they can derive financial and/or other benefits from it.

Blogs as a communication tool
We regularly publish blogs – in three languages – about real estate and housing and all related topics. The general public is given the opportunity to respond to the blogs, to engage in conversation and, if desired, to contribute to future blogs. The blog platform offers plenty of food for thought, but above all aims to encourage action, response and interaction. After all, nothing is more powerful than human energy!

Events for further exchange
Humans are not robots. They need personal interaction. Written exchanges on blogs or general news will lead to the organisation of events - physical or digital - around a specific theme. Be sure to check out Whatt's Events page.
Keep informed
All blogs and information related to events are stored on the Whatt website. However, if you want to be automatically informed about the publication of new blogs or about the organisation of events, you can register to receive the 'Whatt News' newsletter by email. Unsubscribing is possible at any time, for any reason.
